Maids Dream

Welcome to Dal Porto Ranch...
...the West Coast leader in Appaloosa horses.

More than 280 National and World Champions and Reserve Champions have been bred, raised, trained or shown by the talented husband-and-wife team of Steve and Carol Dal Porto. The ranch, established in 1978, sits on 25 irrigated acres in beautiful Brentwood, California, within easy driving distance of the San Francisco Bay Area.

The name Dal Porto is synonymous with quality in halter and performance on the West Coast and beyond. Steve, the ApHC's 1999 Trainer of the Year, oversees the ranch's halter program, which has turned out champions for over two decades. Premier sires at Dal Porto Ranch include:

Maid's Dream, currently the Appaloosa Horse Club's leading sire of halter horses, a position he's held pretty much for the last four years. This loud chestnut son of Dreamfinder had five open champions and one non-pro champion at the last World Championship Appaloosa Show (in 2003), more than any other halter sire to date.

Maid Prety Impresive, multiple National and World Champion halter horse and a World Champion sire out of his first foal crop. This blanketed chestnut is an own son of Maid's Dream.

Mister Re, a two-time National and World Champion halter horse and sire of multiple National and World Champions in halter and performance.

Just Zip It (by Zippo Pine Bar), colorful sire of National, World, and Canadian National Champion performance horses.

While Steve's specialty is halter horses, Carol, past president of Cal-Western Appaloosa and the Appaloosa Pleasure Horse Association, oversees the Dal Porto performance program. In addition to training, Carol offers coaching and instruction for all levels of riders, from beginner to world-class amateur competitor. Clients learn and compete in an atmosphere of fun and goal-oriented achievement.

Carol has produced winners in virtually every event, including Western pleasure, Western riding, Western equitation, trail, hunt seat equitation, saddle seat pleasure, saddle seat equitation, and showmanship. At the 2006 Youth World Show in Oklahoma City, a Dal Porto protege, Andrea Neely was awarded The World Championship in both Youth Novice Showmanship and the Showmanship Youth 16-18. Andrea additionally finished top five in Huntseat Eq and Western Pleasure. Whitney Dal Porto also had a strong showing at the 2006 Nationals and finished in the top 10.

In addition to breeding and training/instruction, Dal Porto Ranch offers showing, sales, and consulting. The Dal Portos are active in their local and state Appaloosa organizations, and respected nationwide for their successful, innovative programs and expertise in the world of Appaloosa horses.

The Dal Porto motto,
"Guided by the past...focused on the future,"
is a key to the success of this dynamic pair.
